What is the Alberta Readers’ Choice Award?

The Edmonton Public Library (EPL), in partnership with the Book Publishers Association
of Alberta (BPAA) is pleased to present the Alberta Readers’ Choice Award.

The Alberta Readers' Choice Award promotes the works of Alberta authors and publishers, and encourages the
reading public to support literary works published in Alberta.

This new, $10,000 award will be awarded to the author of the winning title and rivals other major national book

awards in Canada, such as the Leacock Memorial Medal for Humour, the Trillium Book Award for Poetry, and the

Governor-General's Literary Award for Fiction.

How It Works

• The BPAA with the Alberta Readers’ Choice working committee will review works published in Alberta in 2010 and establish an initial list of 30 eligible titles.
• Alberta Libraries will vote to help reduce the list to 10 titles.
• A jury of prominent Albertans will review the final list of 10 titles and recommend 5 finalist titles.
• The short list will be released to the public, and Alberta readers will vote for the book of their choice during May 2011.
• The winner of the Alberta Readers' Choice Award will be announced at the BPAA Award Gala in June 2011.
