The Library Association of Alberta would like to solicit input on creating an Open Access policy for the Association and, in the process, help create a common understanding of Open Access amongst our members.
At our 2010 AGM, a motion was made for LAA to explore an Open Access policy.
This motion was passed and was referred to the Governance committee to pursue further.
We are holding several consultations and invite members of the Alberta library community to attend, as well as interested members of local communities. Our first consultation is scheduled for November 23 from 1 to 3pm at Mount Royal University (details attached). To ensure that we have enough room (and food) please respond to Alice Swabey at firstname.lastname@example.org no later than November 22 if you plan to attend.
The session will provide general information about what Open Access is, and how it is relevant to libraries, as well offering an opportunity to consult on LAA policy development.
Information will be posted on our website, as well as in the next Letter of the LAA.
Our second consultation will be in Edmonton at the Edmonton Public Library - Stanley Milner (Main) Branch. From 11:00 AM – 12:30, in Room 6-07, members of the LAA Board will be present to discuss and describe Open Access. Visit http://www.epl.ca/about-epl/branches-and-hours/stanley-a-milner-library to find driving directions/ Edmonton Transit Trip Planner. Please contact Mary Jane Bilsland at email@example.com if you plan to attend.
If you are interested in hosting a consultation please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will see what we can arrange.
