Freedom to Read Week Talk - Calgary

Dr. Ann Curry (University of Alberta) will be giving a talk about intellectual freedom, the ability to “access [all] expressions of knowledge, creativity and intellectual activity, and to express thoughts publicly.” Her talk centres on her research into various aspects of “censorship by shouting down” also known as the “heckler’s veto” in law. The talk ties this phenomenon to the latest developments in social media, and gives examples of how the heckler’s veto has played out on Canadian university and college campuses.

The event will take place at Mount Royal University in EA 1031 (Moot Court) on Friday, February 25th from 10-11:30 am.
