This year, the conference takes place on September 20 & 21 at the Grande Prairie Inn in Grande Prairie, AB and features a great line up of sessions for library trustees and school & public library staff.

Awards Luncheon for MacEwan Library Technician Marge Gray - June 1, 2012

The Alberta Association of Library Technicians Awards Committee would like to invite friends and colleagues of Marge Gray to join us at the MacEwan University South Campus on Friday, June 1, 2012 where we will be presenting Marge with the prestigious Library Technician Award of Excellence. 

A light luncheon will be provided from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm in Room 102, with the presentation taking place at 1:00 pm.  Come join us in celebrating the contributions of this amazing and well deserving library technician!

YRL conference registrati​on is open

I'm excited to announce that our online conference registration is open. First browse through our session line-up - at the top you'll see links to both the speaker bios page as well as the online registration page. However, you can also go directly to the registration page ( and click to open the session descriptions from there.

For your convenience, we have two methods of payment available: cheque or PayPal. If you choose to pay by cheque, you will be emailed an invoice that should be mailed in along with your cheque.

Please note that early bird rates are only available until June 30 and sessions will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Thomas Wharton was already an established author of adult fiction when he decided to venture into the realm of young adult fantasy. His book The Fathomless Fire was published this year and is the second book in his Perilous Realm trilogy.

Guests will have the chance to hear Mr. Wharton discuss his latest work, and enjoy a dessert reception, with a selection of cakes, pies, and tortes, tea and coffee.

Due to an unexpected complication, we have altered the original food and beverage arrangements for this event and lowered the ticket prices.

Foothills Library Association - Call for Nominations for Executive Positions

Each year the Foothills Library Association puts out a call for nominations for executive positions.  This year we will be holding an online election for executive positions, with the winners to be presented as a slate for approval at the AGM in June.  The positions, roles and responsibilities are described briefly below.  If you would like to put your name forward for an executive position, or if you have any questions please contact us at Please contact us by May 30th, 2012 if you would like to nominate yourself for one of the positions described below:

  • attend monthly or bimonthly meetings;
  • participate in the planning, hosting and attendance at FLA events;
  • work to promote FLA events and initiatives within their institution or community and
  • contribute to the FLAG (FLA Gazette) by writing or soliciting articles on topics of interest to the library community.
